Callander Open Doors 12th and 13th September
Thank you to everyone who helped and supported this venture. The floral displays were magnificent and the memorabilia displayed for the occasion created interest. Those who supplied the refreshments did a wonderful job. The inclement weather was against us on the Saturday, but other local organizations involved told a similar story. Sunday though brought a pleasing number to St Andrew’s. Now we look forward to next weekend and our part in the Railway Festival (see below)
Refugee Crisis (see seperate post on this website)
The co-ordinator for the Linkage, Anne Winther writes ‘Can you please pass on many thanks from CalAid who were thrilled by the donations that were made by the congregation last week. Approximately 14 bags were delivered to the depot near Holyrood Edinburgh this week. Collection is still continuing (collection point St Mary’s Church Room), but the list has changed and is now much broader (see below). If any member of St Mary’s is visiting central Edinburgh by car on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon over the next month, please could they consider whether they could ferry a car full of donations to the CalAid drop-off depot is open every Tuesday and Thursday 2pm – 7pm at Studio 24 24-26 Calton Road, Edinburgh, EH8 8DP?’

As the refugee crisis continues to escalate, many in our congregations are growing increasingly concerned, and are wondering what we might do. In response to this, many of the Cathedrals of the SEC are holding events at the end of September to mark their solidarity with those who are suffering at this time as a result of this crisis. For our part, St. Ninian’s Cathedral will be hosting a Day of Prayer and Action from 9am to 9pm on Thursday 24 September. The day will begin with a service of Holy Communion at 9am, in which all in the diocese are invited to take part.
Saturday 26th September and Sunday 27th September 11.00 – 16.30

Lucy Moore of Messy Church fame is coming to our diocese to lead a one day workshop. This workshop is not about Messy Church per se, but will explore how to be church for families with young children, and worship in all-age contexts. We will explore themes of children’s spirituality, the unique ministry and worship needs of families, and how to think about making the experience of church welcoming to families with children. Lucy is an internationally known presenter, worship leader, and author, and has influenced thousands of churches globally in their ministry with children and families. 2015 is a crucial year in the fight against climate change. This December, world leaders will meet at the UN climate talks in Paris to negotiate an international deal to limit global warming.
A fair and ambitious agreement is vital, but whatever is agreed in Paris, it won’t encompass everything needed to reduce global emissions and help those in poorer countries who are already affected by the impacts of the changing climate. At the same time as pushing hard for the best deal possible in Paris, we must also keep up the pressure at national, regional, local and community levels: where change is actually put into practice.
Join hundreds of thousands of people in capital cities around the world including Edinburgh marching for climate action as the UN climate talks in Paris begin.
