Linkage Bulletin week beginning 29th August

Notices for the week beginning 29th August

  St Andrew’s Cedar Tree

Since the last issue of the Bulletin, work on removing the tree has continued apace and has been completed save tidying the site and dealing with the stump. The trunk when felled revealed some 230 rings. If each ring represents a year, then the tree considerably predates the church building erected in the 1860s.

Apart from the loss of a town landmark, there is further sadness to report. Three young men in a white van persuaded a resident that they had been working on the tree at St Andrew’s and on the strength of this arranged that they would undertake tree surgery work at the resident’s house. A substantial sum of money was extracted in advance of the work being completed. Needless to say, the trio never returned and the Police have been informed. Please be warned and let Richard know should a similar approach be made. Our contractors are of course entirely trustworthy.
