 Election of New Bishop

Following the failure of the first mandate to achieve a shortlist of candidates for the election of a new Bishop, a second mandate for an election has now been issued. The Electoral Synod reconvenes in Perth on the 24th February

The Lent Group: ‘A long road to a foretaste of Heaven’

This illustrated talk (in two sessions, Aberfoyle 4th and 11th March) and in one session, Callander 21st March) traces the influence of art and decoration in church buildings. The Reformation discouraged artists until the rise of the Oxford Movement in the 19th century which coincided with the formation of the Arts and Crafts Movement.

The focus then moves to a remote country church that unaccountably became the object of attention of a Bishop in conjunction with an unorthodox family who wished to transform the building. These plans were regarded by many as an abomination, but eventually they reached fruition before narrowly escaping destruction. Who was the family and what else was happening in its members’ lives at the time? What remains of their vision today?

Lenten Ecumenical Retreat

A Lenten Retreat is now available online from the Ignatian Spirituality Centre in Glasgow. It can be accessed through the website : www.lentretreat.uk It provides daily readings from scripture and other materials to help deepen prayer life, by spending time with the readings each day during Lent. There will also be a weekly Lent Retreat Group meeting in Callander throughout Lent. The group will give space to introduce some of the themes of the retreat and time for quiet reflection and contemplative music, and for sharing of our experience of the material provided. Paper copies of the material can also be made available for those who prefer or who do not have access to a computer. For further information contact: Jane Vale on 01877 331726 or by email janevale22@btinternet.com The weekly group will take place at St Joseph’s Church Hall on Tuesday afternoons at 2.15pm and will start on Tuesday 13th February and finish on Tuesday 27th March.
