Harvest Supper
We are planning to hold a Harvest Supper and Quiz for both parishes at St Andrews on Friday 29th September.
Could you please let Fiona Gibson (fionagibson20@btinternet.com or 01877 331926) as soon as possible whether you are likely to attend and what you might be able to bring. It is suggested that each person brings one item serving six people. This is quiche, cold meat, a salad, a pudding, wine or a soft drink. Paper copies of this notice can be found in both churches should you prefer. Closing date for notification Friday 22nd September, please.
The Chesney Trust
Many members of our congregation will recall Janet Chesney and her remarkable work in Malawi. Dr John Dymond, a member of St Mary’s, is heavily involved with the trust in Scotland and has kindly provided this update of news.
‘The builders have been busy at our girls’ boarding school in Engcongolweni, Malawi, as they complete the head mistress’s house plus a small teacher’s house so that eight of the ten staff can now be housed on campus, in time for the start of the new school year. They will then move on to finish the physics and biology laboratories, for which we have the funding. Our kitchen/dining hall building was constructed this year and we just await the result of an application for a grant to fit out the kitchen. Janet Chesney still lives in Mzuzu and oversees the project, now in its twelfth year.
The school roll remains at 160, with forty girls in each of the four forms. We were delighted to learn that 11 of those who finished school in 2015 will be taking up places at universities in Malawi this month, and we look forward to hearing the results within a few weeks of the Form 4 girls who sat the Malawi School Certificate examination this summer. Last November, the school choir took first place, out of 11, in a competition for northern region schools.
We are extremely grateful to Vestry for the donations made over the years, and for the support of the two congregations’.

Clare Cushing of St Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Balfron writes
‘The Balfron Community Choir , (which originally grew from the church choir in Balfron Church) are coming to perform at St. Anthony’s. Although this is not an official ecumenical event, I thought it might be nice if everyone who has a link with St. Anthony’s or a link through the churches in Balfron area felt welcome to come along to the concert.
The concert will start at 7:30 and will contain a variety of repertoire to suit everyone, from Mozart to les Mis and lots in between !
Tickets are £4 and £2 and can be purchased from Balfron Library, Mac Farlanes (Hardware) in Balfron, or from me on 07726941407’
